A promo code is a campaign identifier. When you type it into the registration form, the bookmaker tags your new account as part of that campaign. Nothing is credited at that moment. The bonus arrives later, when you meet the activation condition — normally a first deposit above a minimum amount — and it comes with its own rules: rollover, minimum odds, accumulator requirements and a deadline.

A percentage of your first deposit up to a cap. 1xBet and Melbet advertise 200%; Win Win Bet 100%. New accounts only, and the deposit must clear a minimum: 150 ETB at 1xBet, from 50 ETB at Melbet depending on the promotion.
How many times you must stake the bonus before withdrawing, and in what kind of bet. 1xBet and Win Win Bet require accumulators of three or more selections at odds of 1.40 or higher; Melbet accepts singles too. This rule, not the percentage, decides whether a bonus is realistic.
Most welcome bonuses expire after 30 days. 1xBet also splits its bonus: half is for sports, half must be wagered 30 times on 1xGames. If you never play 1xGames, half of the headline number is not really available to you.

The first thing to check is not how many methods a bookmaker lists, but which of them pay out — and whether they still work after the December 2025 licence revocation, which also targeted payment providers.

Two Ethiopia-specific points. First, under Proclamation No. 1395/2025 winnings from games of chance are taxed at 20–25%; how and whether an international operator applies this to you is something to confirm in its terms. Second, because no operator is licensed in Ethiopia, there is no local body to escalate a dispute to — your only recourse is the operator's support and, in theory, its Curaçao licensing body.
A bonus does not change the odds of any bet. What it can change is your behaviour: a 30-day deadline and a 5x accumulator requirement push people to bet faster and on more legs than they would otherwise. That is the real risk of a promotion.

Since 15 December 2025 no sports betting operator holds a licence from the Ethiopian Lottery Service, and in July 2026 the regulator repeated that no licensed operator exists and warned the public against depositing with unlicensed services. Win Win Bet's sports bonus: 100% of the deposit with a 5x requirement on accumulators of three or more legs at odds of 1.40 or higher. Melbet's 200% has the same 5x multiplier and accepts singles, but its minimum odds are listed as 1.40 in some sources and 2.10 in others. 1xBet's 200% locks half the bonus to 1xGames at 30x.
Proclamation No. 1395/2025 raised the withholding tax on winnings from games of chance from about 15% to 20–25%. Locally licensed operators deducted it automatically; whether and how an international operator applies it to Ethiopian customers is something to check in its terms and with a tax professional.
